I The short version
We collect the minimum amount of information needed to sell you an ebook, deliver it to you, and comply with the law. We don’t run ad networks, we don’t sell your data, and we don’t email you unless you’ve bought something or explicitly asked us to.
If you buy an ebook, Hotmart handles the payment and we only keep your email, your order reference, and your country for tax purposes – for as long as we are legally required to, and nothing more.
II Who we are
Ebooks Gate (the “store”, “we”, “us”) is a small independent digital press operating at ebooksgate.com. We publish and sell focused ebooks as digital downloads. We are the data controller for any personal data collected through the site.
To write to us about your data, see section XI.
III What we collect
We group the data we handle into three categories. This is the complete list.
- You give us
- Your email address when you buy, your billing name, and your country of residence (for tax calculation). Optionally, an email address you submit to the “notify me” form of an upcoming shelf.
- Payment processor
- All payments are processed by Hotmart, our external payment and distribution partner. We never see or store your card number, CVV, or bank details – only a transaction reference, the amount, and whether the charge succeeded.
- Automatic
- When you visit the site, our servers record your IP address, browser type, device type, referring page, and the pages you viewed, in standard web-server logs. We use this for security and to understand which pages are read.
IV Why we collect it
We only use your data for these purposes, in these exact contexts:
- To deliver your ebook. Your email is the address Hotmart sends the download link to, and the account you use to re-download it later.
- To process your payment through Hotmart and issue an invoice if required by law.
- To calculate the right tax (e.g. EU VAT, UK VAT, IVA) based on your country.
- To handle refunds and support requests you send to us or to Hotmart.
- To keep the site running – detecting abuse, blocking malicious traffic, fixing bugs.
- To notify you when a shelf you subscribed to is ready. You can unsubscribe in one click from any email we send.
V Cookies and analytics
We keep cookies to a minimum. See the full Cookie Policy for a breakdown. In short:
- Essential
- A small session cookie used by WordPress and a language cookie from Polylang. Required for the site to work; no consent needed under GDPR.
- Analytics
- Aggregate page view stats, only loaded if you accept. No personal identifiers, no cross-site tracking, no fingerprinting.
- Advertising
- None. We don’t run ads on the site, and we don’t share data with ad networks.
VI Who we share it with
We don’t sell your data. We share the minimum amount necessary with a small number of service providers who help us run the store:
- Hotmart – to process your payment, deliver the file, and handle refunds. Hotmart acts as data controller for its part of the transaction; see Hotmart’s Privacy Policy.
- Our hosting provider – to serve the site and keep server logs.
- Email provider – to send transactional notifications (notify-me confirmations, support replies).
Each of these processors handles your data under a contract with us and only uses it for the task we’ve asked them to do. We may also disclose data if we’re legally required to (e.g. a court order), but we will always push back on overly broad requests.
VII How long we keep it
- Orders and invoices
- Kept for 5 to 10 years depending on your jurisdiction. This is a tax-law requirement in most countries we sell to.
- Email address
- Kept for as long as your Hotmart account is active, so you can re-download your ebooks. You can ask us to delete our copy at any time.
- Notify-me list
- Kept until you unsubscribe. Unsubscribing is a single click at the bottom of any email.
- Server logs
- Rotated after 30 days.
VIII Your rights
Whatever country you read from, you have these rights over your personal data. Under the GDPR, UK DPA and similar laws, these rights are formalised; we extend them to everyone.
- Access. Ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Correct. Ask us to fix anything that’s wrong.
- Delete. Ask us to erase your data. We’ll comply unless we’re legally required to keep it (see retention).
- Portability. Ask for your data in a machine-readable format so you can take it elsewhere.
- Object. Tell us to stop using your data for a specific purpose.
- Complain. Lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority if you believe we’ve mishandled your data.
To exercise any of these rights, email us – see section XI. We respond within 30 days, usually much sooner.
IX Security
The site runs entirely over HTTPS. Access to our admin panel is limited to the people who run the store, and protected by strong passwords. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever affects your data, we’ll tell you directly, promptly, and in plain language – what happened, what we did about it, and what you should do.
X Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we’ll change the “Last updated” date at the top and, for any material change, send a short note to active customers. Older versions are archived – ask us if you’d like to compare.
XI Contact us
Any question about this policy, or a request to exercise one of your rights, goes to the address below. We read every message ourselves.
